NASA Finally Makes Contact With Voyager 2 After Longest Radio Silence in 30 Years

NASA Finally Makes Contact With Voyager 2 After Longest Radio Silence in 30 Years

(from Sciencealert.com)

This is interesting. They had never stopped sending commands to Voyager 2 in 30 years until now.

Due to Voyager 2's trajectory (it is already out of the solar system), it is south of the plane of planets, so antennas in the northern hemisphere cannot reach it. The only one we have that can is in Australia, and after 47 years of operation it needed major maintenance, so it had to be shut down for 11 months.

Finally, the work is advanced enough that they could send a command, and Voyager acknowledged it!
