Neptune discovered September 23, 1846

Neptune is the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun in the Solar System. It is the fourth-largest planet by diameter and the third-largest by mass. Neptune is 17 times the mass of Earth and is somewhat more massive than its near-twin Uranus, which is 15 times the mass of Earth but not as dense.

It was discovered independently by Urbain Le Verrier (1811-1877), John C. Adams (1819-1892), and Johann G. Galle (1812-1910). The official date is given as September 23, 1846 which is when Galle observed it for the first time, given the mathematical calculations prediction by Le Verrier and Adams.
