Another Friggin National Prayer Day
Why don’t we get rid of this? It’s an unconstitutional endorsement of religion by government.
Why do people pray. It doesn’t work! Why doesn’t God heal amputees? Why doesn’t He cure cancer? I have two friends who died of melanoma. They were both too young to go. One left two little kids without a father.
Prayer is just superstition. If you still believe prayer works, watch this video.

Volcanic Lightning, Eyjafjallajökull, and how it works
The Astronomy Picture of the Day for April 19th at NASA’s site, is an amazing shot by Marco Fulle from Stromboli Online. This is from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Southern Iceland (how do you pronounce that?)
Theoretical astrophysicist Ethan Siegel has a great post explaining how do you get lightning in a volcanic eruption, and how it is much more common than you may think.

James Randi's fiery takedown of psychic fraud
TED finally posted online James Randi’s presentation from February 2007. He talks about psychics, homeopaths and other charlatans and the reason why it is fraud, dangerous and the law should do something about it.
Worth watching.

Jon Stewart Calls Out Fox News for Anti-Muslim Nuclear Logo Propaganda
The people are certifiable. Jon gives it to them.
First time I saw the logo I knew it symbolized a hydrogen atom. So, I’m a nerd then. I am.

Octopus steals camera
Victor Huang was recording video underwater at Wahine Memorial near Wellington, New Zealand when something really strange happened.
while trying to get video of a wild octopus, it suddenly dashed towards me and rips my shiny new camera from out of my hands, then swims off, all while the camera is recording! he swam away very quickly like a naughty shoplifter. after a 5 minute chase, I placed my spear gun underneath him and he quickly and curiously grabbed hold of the gun as well, giving me enough time to reach in and grab the camera from out of his mouth. I didn’t feel threatened at all during the whole ordeal. he seemed to be fixated on the shiny metallic blue digital camera. the only confusing behavior was how he dashed off with it like a thief ha-ha. cheeky octopus.
