It has been a little hot and muggy in Miami, so I haven't been out shooting as much this past two weeks. As an interlude, let's see some photos from a trip to Spain back in 2002. This is the Metropolis office building in downtown Madrid.

New FoxPro book by Hentzenwerke

The biggest and most prolific publisher of Visual FoxPro books in the world has released a new title: "MySQL Client-Server Applications with Visual FoxPro". This is a well placed book, many years after they published "Client-Server Applications with Visual FoxPro and SQL Server 7.0"

It is good that they show how to use Visual FoxPro as a front-end/middle-tier for databases other than those produced by Microsoft.

The FoxPro ecosystem

Andrew McNeill has a good post on the FoxPro ecosystem. He discusses how certain updates to VFP were discussed in Microsoft in the past and what impact would they have for the community of third party software supporting this great product.

I remember a few cases like that in the past few years. Andrew makes a good point that now that Visual FoxPro has been unleashed, the community is free to develop tools galore without fear of Microsoft trampling on their work with new versions.

Alaska Bush Flying At Its Best

I always loved Alaska bush flying. I do that in Microsoft Flight Simulator online with several friends, in very realistic commercial after-market sceneries like Tongass and Misty Fjords. So much so, that we use real flight maps to navigate in FS.

This blog entry shows somebody doing it in real life with excellent photos to boot!

Nigerian parody spam

The Nigeria scams riled up one person enough to write a parody spam.

Funny!

Flickr: Photo tool could fix bad images

A BBC article comments on a new technology that would allow people to fix their photos by removing unwanted objects using an algorithm developed at Carnegie Mellon University.

Digital photographers could soon be able to erase unwanted elements in photos by using tools that scan for similar images in online libraries.
What they are saying is that the system would look at a collection of similar Flickr photos to find a suitable portion to extract and replace into yours.

As a photographer I find this notion disturbing. What are the copyright implications?

I never liked Flickr (I use Smugmug for my gallery), and now I like it even less.
