La Roche-Guyon Castle

Rommel made this castle his Normandy Headquarters in early 1944. The town then had 540 inhabitants and 1500 German soldiers.
When the Normandy invasion came in 6 June 1944, Rommel was in Bavaria, and had to rush back to the Castle arriving two days after the invasion., From there he directed their response.
On 18 August 1944 the Germans evacuated the village of La Roche-Guyon
