C&L found a rare recording of Dirty Mac, a group composed of John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell that Lennon put together for a Rolling Stones' TV special in 1968. This was the first time John Lennon, who was still with the Beatles, performed without them.

Roseate spoonbill in flight
Merrit Island NWR
One of my goals for this trip to Viera and Merrit Island was to get spoonies in flight. They are very rare in So. Florida but plentiful in this area in Central Florida, if you know where to look. We took a small boat (enough room for four, just three photographers and the captain) and we went to this island in the middle of nowhere in a wide bay. It is uninhabited except for hundreds of birds that like to nest there. Herons, egrets, cormorants, white pelicans and lots of roseate spoonbills.

Armadillo at Viera wetlands
I found this guy in an open field near the entrance. He saw me right after this photo and skedaddled. Had never seen one before in the wild, and it made made my day.

Least Bittern
Viera wetlands, Florida
A very reclusive bird. Hard to find in the open. They hide in the reeds and blend in with their camouflage colors. I waited until he moved, and to my delight he went out into the open to feed, leaving cover for a minute or so, then returning to his hideout.

Photo of the day
I spent a few days at a bird photography gathering last week in Central Florida with a bunch of friends and colleagues that share our love for photography. We organize this meeting every February in a place called Viera Wetlands near Melbourne, Florida and also go to Merrit Island NWR, near Titusville and NASA. It was cold (29F when this sunrise photo was taken) but warmed up during the day. Almost every day was sunny and we had a blast. I came back with several thousand pictures to go through. It will take time, but it's fun.
This was shot around 7am with a borrowed Nikon D3 professional camera and his Nikkor 14-24mm lens (only shot I did with this combo - owned by a friend). Hope you like it and the few to come in this space.

Coral Gables Congregational Church
I have photographed this church before and try to do so in different ways on every visit to Coral Gables, Florida as it is such a beautiful little building.
