How walkable is your house? Get your Walk Score.
Walk Score helps people find walkable places to live. Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc.My Walk Score is 71. Not bad at all, but I knew that when I moved in a few years ago.

Miami Condo Glut Pushes Florida's Economy to Brink of Recession - Bloomberg.com
In the middle of the biggest glut of condominiums in more than 30 years, Miami developers keep on building. The oversupply will force prices down as much as 30 percent, the worst decline since the 1970s, and help push Florida's economy into recession as early as October.I was asking myself for a long time "who's going to buy all these condos?" I lived here for over 25 years and can tell you that the skyline transformation in the last 6 years is stunning. The housing market fell, prices are going down in most of the state and they keep building them. And these are not cheap condos, mind you. The world gone crazy?
A wonderful set of phots of watches showing a master control of light.
For those wanting to get an idea of just how well you can control specular highlights, I recommend viewing Strobist reader Ming Thein's gallery of watch photographs.
A watch is a tidy little nightmare of complex, reflective surfaces. Specular highlight control is pretty much all you have to work with.

Now we know. Start building you ark.
One diocesan bishop has even claimed that laws that have undermined marriage, including the introduction of pro-gay legislation, have provoked God to act by sending the storms that have left thousands of people homeless.
While those who have been affected by the storms are innocent victims, the bishops argue controversially that the flooding is a result of Western civilisation's decision to ignore biblical teaching.
Christians continue to make great strides towards stupidity.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki shrugged off U.S. doubts of his government's military and political progress Saturday, saying Iraqi forces are capable and American troops can leave "anytime they want."I say let's take him up on that.
If I hadn't read it I wouldn't believe it. Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, mocks Al Gore and climate change,
During the session, Gore's "Chicken Little" scenarios were met with skepticism, particularly from Senate Republicans like Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., who said he, like many scientists, believed the dire global warming projections were a "hoax." On the House side, the former vice president was called a prophet by some Democratic members but his revelations were challenged by others. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, cited 600,000-year-old scientific evidence that Gore's carbon dioxide claims are false. When Gore introduced...Yep, you read it right. Rep. Joe Barton confirms that he believes the Earth is older than 6,000 years!
See the whole article by Slacktivist here.
The DNA samples suggest the temperature of the southern Greenland boreal forests 450,000 to 900,000 years-ago was probably between 10C in summer and -17C in winter. Also, the reduced glacier cover in that region means the global ocean was probably between one and two meters higher during that time compared to current levels. Now, how many politicians who deny or obfuscate on global warming do you think also deny evolution? See the link below for more....
In this clip PBS’ Bill Moyers sits down with The Nation’s John Nichols and conservative constitutional attorney Bruce Fein from the American Freedom Agenda to discuss the crimes and abuse of power by George Bush and Dick Cheney and the need to impeach them both. While Nichols and Fein come from different ends of the political spectrum, they are in total agreement on this issue. Congress must put impeachment on the table because if they do nothing to stop Bush and Cheney now, we will see future presidents follow in their footsteps which would be a disaster for our country. This is definitely worth a look.

No, I am not kidding. They are also curtailing teaching of the Crusades, for the same reason. What are they going to come up with next? Yeah, 9/11 didn't happen!
This is precisely why we must not waver, must not slow, and must not lower our gaze. The forces of antiscience, antithought, antirationalism… they lurk around every corner, hide in every dark spot. But now they walk around in the daylight, and have so slowly and perniciously built themselves up in our society that we hardly notice.
So why is it such a puffball? Probably it’s suffered multiple low speed impacts with other bodies. This ruptured the moon, creating cracks and fissures all through it. If it got whacked by something of just the right size and speed, it could have actually broken apart and recoalesced; forming what astronomers call a "rubble pile". It would have so many holes in it that this would account for the extremely low density. Note– I’m still speculating, but it’s hard to imagine what else could have caused this moon to be so lightweight.Check out the article.

'What's Opera, Doc?,' a cartoon that would likely never be made today, celebrates golden anniversary. So starts the article on The Star about the 50th anniversary of what is arguably the best cartoon of all time.
At any other time, the film would not have been made. Imagine the pitch: "Let's steal time and funding from our other projects so we can go way over budget making a cartoon with no jokes, and no real gags. The score will be a German opera. Kids won't get it. Most adults won't get it, but I don't care because I think it's funny."Now I have to go rent it and watch it again, and again...
Fortunately, the time was 1956, the director was Chuck Jones, and the place was the Warners Bros. backlot animation studio dubbed "Termite Terrace." The result – released 50 years ago this week – was "What's Opera, Doc?," voted by animators in the 1994 book The 50 Greatest Cartoons: As Selected by 1,000 Animation Professionals to be the greatest cartoon of all time.

Very funny bit from Lewis Black. Crooks and Liars has the video from The Daily Show.
The right-wing do have some paranoia over the "liberal media" that pervades sites like Wikipedia and YouTube. You know, those places where anybody can contribute to have a strong liberal bias. That's why the right-wing nuts have created Conservapedia, to give use the unvarnished truth. Check out their unique definition of homosexuality.
One of the comments to the C&S page hit it right when he quotes from Conservapedia:
“Corinthians 6:9 - Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals”Why indeed!
That pretty much excludes the whole Religious Right (Giuliani, Gingrich, Thompson, Allen, etc)
It’s pretty clearly there in black and white. Why aren’t they condemning their own leaders?
