Photo of the day
Miami Beach has a collection of lifeguard shacks, each one different than the next. Enjoy the summer!

Smugmug photo service is down today
Smugmug, my photo hoster, is down at the moment. They buy their storage services from Amazon S3 which is the owner of the servers that failed. It is bound to happen, servers and connectivity issues will arise every so often, so all I can do is apologize to the followers of my photo gallery and my blog (at least the photo component). Bear with me, this will get fixed soon.

The best campaign for office evah!
I have seen the best campaign for office: Sean Tevis for Kansas State Representative. Not that I'd like to live in Kansas but if I did I would certainly vote for him.
Click on the link to see what he's all about. If you don't you'll miss something good.
Running for Office: It's Like A Flamewar with a Forum Troll, but with an Eventual Winner.
And yes, you can contribute if you like, starting at $8.34

Photo of the day
Let's break from the zoo for a while. The other day, I visited the old Gold Coast Railroad Museum in Miami. It is a small museum, unfortunately perennially short of funds so the equipment needs a lot of maintenance, but it still makes for good pictures. Comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Independence Day! (belated)
Spent the 4th watching fireworks. Unfortunately we had a light rain in Miami but the fireworks on the beach were great as usual.
These are some of the best Muppet's videos commemorating Independence day. Enjoy!

Happy 150th Birthday Natural Selection!
On 1 July 1858, 150 years ago today, the idea of natural selection was first presented to the public in a reading of Darwin's and Wallace's papers at the Linnean Society of London.
The Beagle Project Blog has a nice writeup on it.
I am a proud owner of a copy of Darwin's seminal book "On the Origin of Species" (not a signed copy of course), where he introduced the idea that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection.
I have also read his "The Voyage of the Beagle", a wonderful book where he recounts his travels aboard the Beagle, having visited in part my birth country of Argentina.
