The Prime Directive
Brazil's Fundação Nacional do Indio (National Indian Foundation) has published aerial photos of a new "uncontacted" tribe found in a remote area of the Amazon near the border with Peru (FUNAI - in Portuguese).
"These pictures are further evidence that uncontacted tribes really do exist," said a statement. "The world needs to wake up to this, and ensure that their territory is protected in accordance with international law. Otherwise, they will soon be made extinct."
We should do everything possible to protect these people and their way of life, although unfortunately I do not have high hopes for their survival now that they've been discovered.

Harvey Korman: You'll be missed
I loved Harvey Korman, one of the funniest comic actors in the USA. He was great in Mel Brooks films such as Blazing Saddles and High Anxiety. I also fondly remember the "Gone with the Wind" skit in the Carol Burnett show. We'll miss you Harvey!

NASA's Phoenix lands on Mars!
After almost a year traveling, and "7 minutes of terror" breaking atmo, NASA-JPL's Phoenix has landed. You can see the first pictures of a sunny day in Mars here. Well done!

Just in case you didn't know Ben Stein was such an ass
From Ben Stein interview on the Trinity Broadcasting Network
Stein: When we just saw that man, I think it was Mr. [PZ] Myers, talking about how great scientists were, I was thinking to myself the last time any of my relatives saw scientists telling them what to do they were telling them to go to the showers to get gassed.
Yes, Ben Stein went there. He equates PZ with Nazis who gassed Jews by the hundreds of thousands.
As Phil puts it:
Great guy, huh?
There is nothing too onerous for that foul little man to say. Nothing. And then he turns around and talks about "God’s love". What an evil hypocrite.
Hard to believe there are awful people like that left in this world.

Evolving an eye
With al the BS being spewed by idiots like Ben Stein in his nonsense movie, the scientists at Expelled Exposed have made a great short educational video of how eyes have evolved.
