Do scratches and fingerprints on a lens matter?

A Lens Rentals did an interesting experiment to ascertain how much do scratches on the front element of a lens impact the pictures. That's why I always use a filter on all my lenses. Protection counts.

See for yourself (see the shocker in photo #3).

The Wild Wordsmith of Wasilla

Dick Cavett wrote a wonderful piece on the mangling of the English Language by Sarah Palin, the Wild Wordsmith of Wasilla.

I can play a kind of Alaskan roulette. Any random channel clicked on by the remote brings up that eager face, with its continuing assaults on the English Lang.

There she is with Larry and Matt and just about everyone else but Dr. Phil (so far). If she is not yet on “Judge Judy,” I suspect it can’t be for lack of trying.

I am as baffled as Mr. Cavett about what did a percentage of the population see in the lady as a show of leadership. All I see is her obvious good looks, which are good for a modeling career, or maybe a job as TV anchor, but certainly not to deal with this country's problems.

As an aside, and apropos, she was in Miami last week for the Republican Governor's Association meeting. Here's what the Miami Herald's columnist Carl Hiaasen reported about the meeting (not really). Have you noticed that after all the pretty speeches and lamenting the election's results, they did not name her for any post in RGA's management? I wonder why.

I voted today

I felt happy, uplifted, empowered. I have not missed a single vote since I could legally vote. I feel this is the most important vote I've ever had. Too much is at stake and we can make history today.

It is not too late at his time. If you are a US citizen and have note voted yet, go out and vote!

It's cold outside

Catching up with some videos I wanted to show, this one I found a few weeks ago at Bad Astronomy blog. It shows a very bad storm in Antarctica. These people are there on a research station. It must be fun sometimes but it is dangerous on a night like this one.
