Photo of the Day
Jerusalem - old downtown
Note there is a difference between old and new downtown in Jerusalem. Not far from each other but very different.
The new one has modern buildings, cafes, restaurants, night life and a lively youth scene.
The old downtown dates from the British Mandate and it was in its heyday in the 1930s and 40s.
That’s were the old Knesset was, where Independence was declared in 1948. The building is being renovated and will be opened as a museum,
so I only saw the exterior (not the one in the photo).
No photos of that one as it was all surrounded by a construction area fence. Maybe next trip.

The Great White Fleet
Today is the anniversary of the return of the Great White Fleet. That was the popular nickname for the United States Navy battleships which completed a journey around the world from 16 December 1907, to 22 February 1909 to show the flag following Theodore Roosevelt's foreign policy: "speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far".
