Orthotics save a bird
I didn't know they could do orthotics for birds. A captive eagle had a foot problem. They solved it elegantly and humanely. A great story to brighten your day.
Just because golden eagles never wear heels doesn't mean they don't have foot problems.
At the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program in Fort Collins, the situation became so serious for one very large, very important eagle that the next step was going to be killing the bird...

State Approves Evolution As 'Scientific Theory'
The State of Florida approved the using of the E-word in their school curriculum but with the addendum that is is named the 'Scientific Theory of Evolution', in order to appease the fundamentalists that now can claim a "victory" as "it is only a theory". Yes, just like the Theory of Gravity and the Theory of Relativity.

Florida's reputation for flakiness is at stake
Carl Hiaasen writes in the Miami Herald: Our reputation for flakiness is at stake:
In a move that could endanger Florida's flaky backwater reputation, the
state Board of Education is poised to endorse the teaching of evolution as a
science.
This is a dangerous idea -- not the presentation of Darwinism in
schools, but the presentation of Florida as a place of progressive scientific
thought.
I agree with Mr. Hiaasen. It is a dangerous idea for Florida to "boldly going against the flow, in defiance of reason and all known facts". What are we thinking?
If you do not know what's happening, Florida is adding Evolution as a science to the school curriculum. There was a hearing in Orlando, where lots of kooks came out of the woodwork to talk against this "theory". Especially interesting is this learned gentleman talking about oranges and cats.
It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.
