On September 14, 2015, a gravitational wave was detected for the first time. Using the LIGO instrument (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory), which is a actually two big lasers, one in Louisiana, the other one in Washington State, detected a ripple in space created by gravitational waves. This was predicted by Albert Einstein more than 100 years ago.
