The Day the Music Died

On February 3, 1959 a private plane carrying musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and the pilot, Roger Peterson, crashed at night in marginal weather in a field in Iowa.

The day is mentioned as the theme of the song “American Pie” by Don McLean who dubbed it “The Day the Music Died”.
